I hope that the Holy Spirit moved in all of our hearts yesterday as we read and learned from God's Word. It was a difficult sermon to preach in that we could have spent several hours on "Seed Theology". I would encourage you to investigate this further as it is rich with blessing and helps us to understand how God has worked all throughout history and how he continues to work to this day. It also helps us to understand that each of the stories in the Bible have a significance to the coming of Jesus Christ. These weren't just random accounts but God-inspired inclusion of Redemptive facts and history.
This week we will prepare to study John 1 as we approach Christmas Day. I hope you enjoy the devotions this week and I hope that they prepare you for this Sunday. If you have trouble downloading the devotions, please feel free to e-mail me.

I have been listening to the Bible on CD lately and got through Genesis ok, but then we got to Exodus and I have the urge to skip some chapters while it goes through the geneologies and the temple dimentions!! I say all this to say that your shortened version of the geneology this sunday had me wanting to hear more. Thank you for the insight into the seamingly "unimportant" people God used to bring about His salvation. It gives me something to say when a friend says they are not good enough to come to church! Jesus came for the sick not the healthy. We have really been enjoying your series. God is using you in mighty ways. God bless!
That's great to hear! The geneologies are packed with a lot of spiritual significance. It is interesting that Paul tells the church in his letters to not be concerned with endless geneologies and godless myths. Yet this geneology has major significance for us and our understanding of how God preserved the "seed of the woman" through all of history. Glad to hear you are enjoying God's Word.
A recent conversation I had with some Jehovah’s Witnesses regarding John 1:1
ME: You gentlemen are Jehovah’s Witnesses?
JW"S: Yes we are.
ME: You are the guys that believe in more than one TRUE god right?
JW"S: No, No, we believe in only one TRUE god Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ.
Me: May I ask you how you interpret John 1:1?
JW"S: Sure…… (They read finishing with) and the word was “a god”.
ME: Is this verse talking about Jesus as it would seen to indicate in vs. 14?
JW: Yes it is.
ME: I have to ask, if Jehovah God says that “I am the one true God” Then is Jesus a true God or a false god?
JW: They say, He is a god but with a small g.
ME: But is he a true God? Because God says I am the one true God and all other gods are false gods, and also that you shall have no other gods besides me…. Or is he a false god?
Needles to say they got more and more convoluted in their answers as we went on. Im not gonna say that they didn’t know what they were talking about…. But I didn’t know what they were talking about! Kidding! They did have answers but each one brought new things I could hit them with. Their theology is sad….
Just a few verses that show that the Trinitarian view can be the only logical one….
Isaiah 45:5 I am Jehovah, and there is none else; besides me there is no God. I will gird thee, though thou hast not known me;
Isaiah 45:21 Tell and bring forth your case; yes, let them take counsel together. Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me, a just God and a Savior; there is none besides Me.
Isaiah 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else.
Deuteronomy 6 Hear O Isreal the Lord your God is one! I have been doing some interesting exegesis on John 1:1. Originally, I was going to preach on John 1:1-18. Then I honed it down to John 1:1-5, and now finally I arrive with preaching on John 1:1 alone!
When properly studied, it is impossible to deny what John is claiming. "Here is God in the flesh!" Now what are you going to say about him? What are you going to believe? Isn't it neat how John prefaces his whole Gospel account with this theologically packed verse? If you don't understand this verse, if you don't believe Jesus is this God-man than all of Scripture is profitless.
i am a newcomer to g.r.p.c.and have a lot to learn but i have learned that you must stand for something or you will fall forvanything
Anonymous,
We absolutely must be grounded in sound teaching or, as you say, and as I have heard it put before, you will fall for anything. The problem is that many are grounded in error and so stand on the wrong foundation. Though we must be open to learning and the movement of the Holy Spirit, we also must approach new ideas by Scripture alone. By the way...feel free to introduce yourself sometime. We are glad to have you as part of the fellowship at GRPC!
